What this site is
A roller is the cheapest tool in a paint job and the one that decides how the wall looks. The wrong nap leaves orange peel on a smooth wall or skips the low spots in stucco; a cheap cover leaves lint in a gloss finish. Most roller roundups repeat the same picks with no explanation. We built the reference we wanted: which nap suits which surface, which cover suits which paint, and what paint makers and independent testers actually say.
How we choose
We have not tested these products ourselves. Nothing on this site claims hands-on testing, lab results or scores of our own. Instead:
- Nap and material guidance comes from paint and tool makers, mainly Benjamin Moore, Purdy and Sherwin-Williams, which agree closely on nap by surface.
- Maker claims are labeled as claims. When a maker says a cover is lint-free or holds more paint, we say the maker says so.
- Performance comes from independent hands-on reviews, such as Bob Vila’s roller test. When we summarize a finding, we link to it.
- Technique comes from the people who make the paint, such as Benjamin Moore on lap marks and on cleaning rollers.
- No scores, no star ratings, no prices. Prices change daily, so our shop buttons open Amazon searches and you compare current listings yourself.
- Uncertain means we say so. Where evidence is thin, such as how many square feet a cover lasts, we give cautious general guidance rather than numbers we cannot back up.
How the site earns
Some links go to Amazon with our affiliate tag. If you buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That never decides what we recommend. Details are on the affiliate disclosure page.
Corrections
Makers change product lines and guidance. We review pages regularly and update them when specs or sources change; each guide shows when it was last reviewed.
Who we are
Painting Roller is operated by WellTracked, a small publisher of independent guides. We are not affiliated with any paint, tool or retail brand.
